Meet Ruby

Ruby is a technical writer for the Information Products team, based in Dundee, Scotland. Despite joining NCR Atleos less than a year ago, she’s already made a notably positive impact on her colleagues and the organization as a whole.
Ruby recently spoke with us, sharing a bit about her role and career journey so far.
“Take the chance when you can. Your niche might be just one decision away.”
What is your role at NCR Atleos?
I am a technical writer on the Information Products team based in Dundee. In my role, I focus on technical publications. I see myself as a kind of translator—taking complex technical information and turning it into clear, concise and user-friendly documentation that helps our customers and internal users do their jobs confidently.

The work I do ranges from printable manuals to interactive web content, training videos and technical illustrations. It’s not just writing—I also work with CAD software to prepare visuals for documentation.
What do you find most rewarding about your job?
It’s incredibly rewarding to see how my work fits into the bigger picture within the company. My team aligns closely with hardware engineering. When a project is delivered on time and I know our documentation helped make that happen, it gives me a real sense of pride and purpose.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging part of my role is learning about the ATM itself. As a user, you just put your card in, get your money and go. But working here, I’ve learned to understand the product at a much deeper level. There are so many different modules and devices within the ATM, and they all work together to deliver a seamless transaction.
What do you like most about working for NCR Atleos?
I joined NCR Atleos last November, so I’m coming up on my one-year anniversary. It’s been a fast-paced and rewarding journey—I’ve learned so much in a short time and really enjoyed every second.
I like how collaborative and forward-thinking the environment is. It’s fulfilling to know we’re all working toward improving customer experience and driving innovation.

Are you part of any employee groups at NCR Atleos?
Outside of my day-to-day role, I’ve had the chance to get involved in so many amazing initiatives through the range of Culture Crews in Dundee, specifically the Team Development and Training Culture Crew. These experiences have helped me build connections across different teams and functions, even with people I wouldn’t normally interact with.
I’m also part of the Brand Ambassador program, which I enjoy because it helps me stay up-to-date with what’s going on in our business and in the ATM and banking industry in general. It’s been a great way to showcase what we do and to get more involved in the company.

What advice would you give to someone interested in becoming a technical writer?
There’s no single degree that teaches you how to be a technical writer. People come from all sorts of backgrounds and bring transferable skills. What really matters is having the curiosity, flexibility and adaptability to learn about a product.
My advice is to take the chance when you can. Your niche might be just one decision away.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love cooking and baking, especially because I’m far from home and I miss the flavors I grew up with in Vietnam. It gives me a chance to get creative with the ingredients I have here in Scotland and bring a little piece of home to where I live now.

I’ve also developed a deep appreciation for nature. Scotland is such a beautiful place, and I love taking long walks along the beach or through the parks.
Thank you for talking with us, Ruby. Your curious and collaborative nature makes a difference.
