Suresh  is a territory manager for field service delivery in Uttaranchal and Western Uttar Pradesh, India. Throughout his more than 25-year tenure at NCR and NCR Atleos, he’s held a number of roles and worked in seven states across India.

Suresh recently spoke with us to share more about his personal interests and professional journey.

“Eagerness to learn and the ability to adapt to change are essential traits for success in any field. Those who keep learning and adapt quickly are the ones who succeed.”
Tell us about your current role and the career path you took to get there.

I have been with NCR (now NCR Atleos) for slightly more than 25 years. I am a territory manager for Uttaranchal and Western Uttar Pradesh, India, with 50 members on my team.

I started my career as a customer engineer in the magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) check processing center. We used to process checks overnight to deliver financial reports and sorted checks to our banking customers in the morning. I was promoted to senior customer engineer and then territory manager, with assignments in seven different states along the way, including Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

During my tenure at the company, I’ve been part of the team responsible for resolving critical issues and maintaining systems that have helped pave the way for digital banking and reduced reliance on physical bank branches in India.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?

The most rewarding part is when a customer appreciates our effort and services—especially when we’ve helped them withdraw money through an ATM during an emergency like the pandemic or the cash demonetization that occurred in India in 2016.

And since I’ve relocated so often, I’ve been able to learn about different cultures across India. I’ve enjoyed their lifestyles, their rituals and their festivals. That’s helped me grow in both my career and personal life.

What do you find most challenging about your role?

The most difficult part of my job is handling emergencies involving my team, like incidents or personal issues. It can be challenging to provide support during critical situations, both professionally and personally.

What advice would you give to someone interested in becoming a territory manager?

Embrace opportunities and change. When you get the opportunity to show your talents, take it. People often hesitate to take on new challenges or relocation opportunities, but being open to new things is essential for growth.

Eagerness to learn and the ability to adapt to change are essential traits for success in any field. Those who keep learning and adapt quickly are the ones who succeed.

What do you like most about working for NCR Atleos?

The company takes care of its employees. I saw this in action during the pandemic when teammates were sick or could not leave their homes. The company prioritized the well-being of employees during this crisis.

It’s also been rewarding to see how the company has helped digitize the Indian banking system while I’ve worked here, enabling banks to automate the check clearing process and giving individuals the ability to withdraw money outside of business hours and during holidays.

What are your personal passions?

Right now, I enjoy playing badminton. I’ve also started cooking recently, making a lot of Indian dishes with my wife and daughter. We enjoy vegan food, eating raw fruits and salad during the day and cooked meals in the evening. My favorite things to cook are ladyfingers (okra), lotus stems and potato dishes.

Thank you for talking with us, Suresh. Your dedication to service and willingness to embrace change are inspiring.
